Delete your account and data

This page explains how to delete your Minnehimmel™ account and everything connected to it. You do not need the app installed to request deletion.

Deletion cannot be undone. Once the account is gone, we cannot bring it back for you.

1. Delete it yourself

In the app

Open the menu, choose Innstillinger (Settings), then Slett konto og alle data (Delete account and all data). The app shows you what will disappear before you confirm. This is the complete deletion, and the only route if you own memorial pages. The app is in Norwegian.

The app is available for iPhone on the App Store. The Android app is coming soon and is not on Google Play yet.

On the web

Go to app.minnehimmel.no/en/account, sign in with Google, then choose Delete my account. You have to confirm your sign-in again first, so a forgotten open browser cannot delete your account.

Two limits on the web: the confirmation uses Google, so if you signed in with Apple you need to use the app or email us. And if you own memorial pages, deletion stops with a message asking you to do it in the app instead.

2. Do you own memorial pages?

Then the deletion has to happen in the app. A memorial page can be a place others visit and have lit candles on, so we want you to see what disappears before it is gone. The app lists your pages and deletes them along with the account.

If you no longer have access to the app, email us (section 4) and we will delete it manually.

3. What gets deleted

When the account is deleted, this is permanently removed:

Your account, including the name and email address from your sign-in, and your unique user ID.
Your profile in our database.
Every greeting you have written, public and private alike, including the text of the private ones and any photos you attached.
Reports you have submitted about inappropriate content.
The memorial pages you own, with photos, quotes and the whole Memorial Book, when you delete from the app.

Greetings other people wrote on a memorial page you own are deleted along with the page.

4. Cannot sign in?

Email post@minnehimmel.no from the address the account uses and say that you want the account deleted. We may ask for something that confirms it is you, so that nobody else can delete your account. We normally reply within a few days, and at the latest within one month, as the GDPR requires.

5. What may be kept, and for how long

Everything in section 3 is deleted immediately. Two exceptions:

Purchases. If you paid to publish a memorial page, the receipt is an accounting record. The Norwegian Bookkeeping Act (bokføringsloven) § 13 requires such sales documentation to be kept for five years, also after the account is deleted. This is a statutory obligation that overrides the right to erasure, and the records are not used for anything else.
Backups. The database is backed up daily. Backups are kept for 30 days, and the database can additionally be restored to any point in the last 7 days. A deleted account may therefore remain in a copy until those windows have passed. Backups are only used to recover from failures, never for anything else.

Anonymous guest IDs, which you get if you simply visit a memorial page without signing in, are deleted automatically after 30 days of no use. A statistics entry recording which platform the visit came from, with no name and no content, is kept longer. Email us if you want it removed.

6. Your rights

You can also ask for access, correction, restriction or a copy of your data. Send the request to post@minnehimmel.no. You have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (datatilsynet.no).
